the marines are here!!!
(Retired MGYSGT Ricky Holtz)
This picture is of my dad in 1972. He served 25 years as an active duty U.S. Marine. I had the joy and privilege of growing up a Marine brat. I learned many things from my dad but one that has really stuck with me through the storms of life is “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome”.
The United States Marines are about as tough as they come (especially my dad), but you don’t need to wear the Marine Eagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem to learn some valuable lessons from these great men. Marines are taught to be able to overcome any obstacle, which serves them well in the chaos of combat. This concept is encapsulated in the Marine slogan “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome”, which is a mindset that allows Marines to deal with any physical, or mental hardship.
Dad, thank you for teaching me what it means to be a man!
