A stave is a block of wood from an original whiskey aging barrel. The whiskey barrels we use are made from white oak. White oak is a dense, durable, All-American wood with a rich history in woodworking. What makes it desirable for whiskey barrels? It contains a substance called tyloses that makes it waterproof. Beyond functionality, white oak barrels also impart highly desirable qualities to the liquid contained.
The staves vary in size from 34 inches to 37 inches long, and 1.5 inches to 4 inches wide. The staves are 1 inch thick with a slight curved bow at the middle. Each stave is unique with grain, markings, and sight imperfections.
The stave comes with 2 keyholes on the back for wall mounting and is very simple to display in any room!
1. Head - The circular top and bottom parts of the barrel, the 'lid".
2. Bilge - the widest part around the center of the barrel.
3. Stave - The narrow strips of wood found long the sides of a barrel that make up the walls.
4. Hoops - the metal bands that hold the staves together by circling around the barrel.
5. Bunghole - a hole used to access the liquid inside the barrel.
We use 100% authentic Jack Daniels whiskey barrels, imported directly from Lynchburg, Tennessee. Each barrel weighs 110 lbs empty. Each week, 191 production workers make 10,000 - 11,000 barrels, each holding 53 gallons, which amounts to anywhere from 240-280 bottles of whiskey.
Every millworks barrel comes directly from Lynchburg, Tennessee. We only use authentic Jack Daniel's Whiskey Barrel Staves to make our products.
Our team of specialized artisans pay close attention to every aspect of your order, upholding the quality standard you expect from Holtz.
Every Holtz product is built to withstand the test of time. We believe in good old fashioned American Quality, and we don't compromise on that.
Our Millworks products still proudly feature the charred, whiskey-soaked back for that final touch of authenticity.
